Hello August We have Been Waiting for You

Happy New Month!

There is something about the “ember” months that puts everyone on edge, especially in this part of the world. Once September arrives, the year suddenly shifts into top gear. Christmas creeps closer, ceremonies become more frequent, deadlines pile up, and people begin chasing targets they probably ignored for months. The rush begins. More often than not, the pressure is self-inflicted, yet almost everyone gets swept up in it.

Interestingly, very few people talk about the month that comes just before all that madness.

August.

For football fans, August is one of the most exciting months of the year. It is the month anticipation gives way to reality. The transfer rumours begin to fade, pre-season tours come to an end, and the real business starts. Across Europe and many other parts of the world, league football returns. Fresh hopes are born, old disappointments are forgotten, and every supporter convinces themselves that this could finally be their season.

Nigeria is no different.

The NPFL returns this month, and clubs have now moved beyond planning into full preparation. New players are arriving, coaches are putting the finishing touches to their squads, and supporters are beginning to count down the days. The wait is almost over.

But one question remains:

Are we really ready?

The league deserves credit for announcing the kickoff and closing dates not only for the coming season but also for the next. That level of planning is commendable because it gives clubs some certainty and allows them to prepare ahead.

However, one important piece of the puzzle is still missing—the fixtures.

To some people, fixture release may not seem like a big deal, but it is. Knowing who you are playing, where you are playing and when you are playing allows clubs to organise logistics, supporters to plan their travels, media houses to prepare coverage, and sponsors to activate campaigns. Football is not just ninety minutes on the pitch; a successful league is built on organisation away from it as well.

We also witnessed the recently concluded retreat for NPFL Media and Marketing Officers. That, too, is a step in the right direction. Modern football is no longer sustained by results alone. It thrives on storytelling, branding, fan engagement and consistent communication. Hopefully, the lessons from that retreat won’t stop at the conference hall but will be reflected in how clubs communicate with supporters and, just as importantly, in how the league presents its own product.

As we step into this new month, there is every reason to be optimistic.

August has always been the month of fresh starts. Every club begins on level ground. Every player gets another chance to rewrite their story. Every supporter allows themselves to dream again.

For Enyimba, perhaps no club needs that fresh start more.

Last season tested everyone’s patience. There were disappointments on and off the pitch, frustrations that lingered long after the final whistle, and questions that still demand answers. But football has always offered one beautiful gift: the chance to begin again.

This month presents that opportunity.

May August be the month we lay the foundation for a season worthy of the badge. May it bring better football, better decisions, stronger communication and, above all, a team that gives the fans reasons to believe once more.

Happy New Month to every Enyimba supporter around the world.

The countdown is over.

The new season is almost here.

Enyimba Enyi.
