Good day folks!
What a week it has been. Our club has been hugging headlines like a long lost celebrity, for good, bad, and ugly reasons. And with all this limelight comes expectations. Plenty of them. Some fair, some wild, all watching.
A lot has changed since that Tuesday morning meeting. Or maybe I should say everyone expects a lot to change. Because plenty was said. Plenty was promised. And now we wait to see if action will match the words we all heard with our own ears. I refuse to believe the Deputy Governor holds meetings, makes promises, and shakes hands just for the fun of it. Something has to give.
Enter Rivers United. The first litmus test. The moment of truth.
Playing any Rivers State team has never been a stroll in the park. Not in the Dolphins and Sharks days, and definitely not since they merged and became Rivers United. Truth be told, they have been our wannabes for a while. But the tides have turned. These days, they carry themselves like the new bride of the league, going farthest on the continent while we watch from home like ordinary spectators.
Tomorrow is not just another match. It is a three way test.
First, it will test that fact finding meeting. Were the players listening? Do they believe the promises? Or was it just another talk shop with cameras and handshakes.
Second, it will test the new coach. Imagine your first assignment is away to Rivers United, against Finidi George, Yema and their boys, days after resumption. No time to settle. No soft landing. Coaching Enyimba is already a big headache. Starting with Rivers away is paracetamol overdose.
Third, it will test the management. Have they accepted each other and their new roles. Will we start seeing less press statements and more real coordination. Will we start seeing the chairman more often. I will not hold my breath for a Port Harcourt appearance, but miracles are not completely sold out.
Realistically, a win on the road is tough. Rivers United at home is no joke. But we do not even need a win tomorrow to believe again. We just need to see something different. A glimpse of a restart. Not the same old rubbish we have been watching all season.
Just show us fight. Show us structure. Show us that the meeting meant something.
