Good morning Everyone.
Enyimba released a stinker in response to Brown Ideye’s comments that went viral yesterday. I believe you’ve seen it. If you haven’t, I’ll share you a link. Cos there is no way I will put any of that on this blog. It was even signed by “Enyimba Media Department”. More on that in a bit.
As much as I hate to talk about this Enyimba management, staying silent feels like enabling. You can’t shame the shameless, they say—but Enyimba has gone far past that. No shame, no standards, no sense of responsibility. Just loud, reckless, and absolutely void of decorum.
Kanu can say whatever he says to whoever pushes a microphone infront of him but the fact is, we have touts running the club. There isnt a single area where things have improved since he joined. And the lowest of it is defending owing players because they are paid One million Naira in salaries.
A quick reminder for those at the back: when a player signs a contract, both the club and the player are legally bound to honor every term exactly as agreed. Just as a player can’t refuse to play because another player negotiated a better deal, the club must also fully respect and fulfill every part of the contract without fail.
So when Ideye says, “Pay what you owe me,” the correct response isn’t, “We paid your salary and put you in N65K 5-star hotels.” Fulfilling one part of the contract doesn’t excuse neglecting the rest. It’s like a player saying, “I’ll only show up for matchdays, not training,” when the contract clearly expects both. Both sides have responsibilities and they ought to be honored fully.
Hold on one bit; what if that response was never meant to address the concerns Ideye raised? Cos thinking about it, It feels more like a distraction; an attempt to deflect from the real issues he raised: player welfare and the growing desperation among players to leave the club. This is supposed to be Nigeria’s biggest club? Governor. Alex Otti, you have done us dirty.
By putting out that statement, Enyimba has unintentionally exposed what many lesser known players go through at the club. And this is exactly why most of them remain silent. The fear is real. It feels like there’s a gag order in place and nobody wants to speak, no one dares grant interviews. And it also explains the endless stream of exits in the recent past.
Here we are, much worse than we’ve ever been, with absolutely nothing to be excited about. A new season is upon us, and we are heading in with no star players, no Continental ticket, a coach no one wants and a management team that knows nothing about football. Run by illiterates, led by confusion. What a sad little establishment we’ve become.
Coincidentally I saw a tweet from Remo Stars who are hosting Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo at their facility. A club that just won their first ever league title. A club headed to the Continent. A club run by someone who actually understands the game.
That’s the difference good leadership makes.
