Shine Your Light; While You Can

Good Day All

Away from football for me today, as I have had one of the most difficult weeks in a long time. Followers of this blog know that whenever there is a “high profile” death, I pause to put things in perspective. Today is one of those days.

On Wednesday, a young leader in the United States, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated. Different people viewed him differently, but to me, he was an inspiration—a father just like I am, and someone who touched many lives positively while he was here.

As someone who understands the call to shine my light from where I am, I was and still am deeply distraught by how quickly his life was ended. He was just 31. A husband and father to two young girls, with a third child on the way. In a single moment, that family’s world was turned downside up.

Was he perfect? Probably not. But he was a man on a mission, striving to light up and change his world. And the truth is, no man in history was universally loved. Not even the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, Christ was so hated, He was crucified.

Yesterday, news emerged that his killer had been apprehended—a 22-year-old radicalized by the evil around us. With a bullet, he chose to end a life. He thought the best way to silence disagreement was to silence a man. He gave no thought to the weight of his actions.

Life is so precious. Growing hate in your heart, no matter who it is directed at, only produces tragedy. On the flip side, letting your light shine, treating every encounter as an opportunity to give others a good experience—that is what counts.

One day, we will all breathe our last. When that day comes, make sure you are remembered for the right reasons.

Back tomorrow
