<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The race is tightening at both ends of the NPFL table.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While Enugu Rangers and Rivers United continue to lead the conversation in the title race, the battle for survival is shaping up to be just as dramatic. Only four points separate the bottom six teams, with four places in the relegation zone still up for grabs.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every matchday now feels decisive. Each game offers a chance to climb clear of danger, but with fixtures coming thick and fast, there is barely time to celebrate a win or dwell on a defeat. We saw that clearly with Enyimba last week. The joy of a heartening 2-0 victory over Plateau United quickly disappeared after Kano Pillars returned the same scoreline, leaving us stuck in the same uncomfortable position.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What is needed now is an immediate response to keep the pace and belief alive. And who better to take that frustration out on than our younger brothers from Umuahia in the Abia Derby?</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This season, Abia Warriors have been everything Enyimba have not. While the Umuahia side are pushing for a continental ticket for the second straight year, the People’s Elephant are fighting to stay above relegation waters.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A major difference between both sides has been stability. Abia Warriors have enjoyed continuity on the bench and a clearer direction under Imama over the last two seasons. Enyimba, on the other hand, have gone through about four coaches in the same period, leaving the club with a muddled and often conflicting technical identity.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Warriors also strengthened smartly, bringing in experienced players and proven campaigners, many of them familiar faces from our fold. Enyimba, by contrast, weakened themselves by turning to the lower leagues for replacements. On paper, Abia Warriors look the more settled, more organized, and more dangerous side.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But derbies rarely follow the script.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Form, league position, and reputation often count for little in games like this. What matters most is hunger. The team that shows more fight, takes its chances, and wants it more will likely come out on top.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">History, at least, offers Enyimba some comfort.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The People’s Elephant have been dominant in this fixture in Aba in recent years. After losing the very first meeting in 2014 to a memorable Cletus Itodo strike and then playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw in 2015, Enyimba cracked the code. Since then, they have won eight straight home meetings against Abia Warriors.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Still, this current Warriors side are living up to their name. They have the most away wins in the league this season with five, having beaten Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes, Kun Khalifat, Plateau United, and Kano Pillars on the road. They will arrive in Aba confident of adding Enyimba to that list and claiming yet another major scalp.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For Enyimba fans, though, none of the talk about form, class, coaching, or league standing matters as much as one thing: the result.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a game Enyimba simply have to win. They need to build on the last home victory, ease the pressure, and create some breathing room between themselves and the relegation zone.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At this stage, performance is welcome, but points are everything.</p>
