Good Morning Everyone!
One more night, and your beloved Enyimba begin the journey to reclaim her crown. The long, noisy, drama-filled break is finally behind us; exits, accusations, podcast scandals, you name it. Now, it’s showtime.
The season’s curtain raiser gave us a 1-1 draw between Remo Stars and Rivers United. The rest of the league takes the stage at 4pm on Sunday. For us, that means Barau FC. New to the league, yes but in their dugout sits an old warhorse in Ladan Bosso. Expect them to be very well primed for this clash.
A full match preview comes your way tomorrow. For now, my thoughts rest on something else: our kits for the 2025/26 season. Enyimba won’t be wearing KK-sponsored jerseys anymore. Instead, we’re reverting to Joma. Good ol’ Joma.
How Joma is back on the scene, I can’t say but it is to me, a very welcome development. KK, short for King Kanu, looked good on paper but was always a conflict of interest. A club administrator should not also be our kit supplier. Joma, on the other hand, is a global brand and I think, very worthy of Enyimba’s stature.
No disrespect to Owu (who has done a solid job locally), but a brand such as Enyimba, should leverage on their prestige to secure something significant. I hear the Joma kits are already in the country and might debut against Barau on Sunday. Credit where it’s due; Kanu and his team got this right. Whoever drove this deal deserves applause.
But here’s the big question: what about the fans? For years, supporters have lamented the unavailability of replica jerseys. No matter how sharp the designs looked, getting one was like chasing shadows. This time, the club must ensure a real partnership with Joma on sales and marketing. The potential revenue is enormous.
Let’s do some math. Say replicas go for ₦15k each. If just 20,000 Enyimba fans around the world buy, that’s ₦300 million. That’s almost the club’s entire yearly budget. Joma will take their cut, sure, but the numbers show what’s possible. Enyimba has more than 20,000 fans globally; easily.
So the question becomes: what are we going to do with this opportunity?
Back tomorrow with the full match preview.
