My All time Best Enyimba XI

Good morning everyone!

Today, I’ve decided to write a happy blog—no matter what it took to get there! The Enyimba that Kanu, Ekwueme, and their friends are running might sometimes feel like a home of okwu na uka, but today, we’re choosing joy. And if you didn’t quite catch the opening line, don’t worry, I was simply wishing you a “Happy New Year”.

I decided to put together my All-Time Best Enyimba XI. Of course, this is my selection and I know many of you will have different picks (dont fight me). But instead of turning this into another episode of okwu na uka, how about you build your own list and share it with us? Just shoot it over via email—you know the one.

Now to the team…

🟦 My Enyimba All-Time XI (4-3-3 Formation)
🧤 Goalkeeper — Vincent Enyeama
Hard to believe he started at Enyimba. An icon of African football. Beyond the leadership and confidence he’s famous for, he was a true warrior between the sticks.

➡️ Right Back — Bright Eseme
This one’s from the heart. He may not have stayed long enough to win a league title, but there was something about him—tidy on the ball, cool demeanor. Just a player I enjoyed watching.

🛡️ Centre Back — Chinedu Udoji
My Mr. Enyimba. Even though he left for Kano Pillars and didn’t play in the golden era, Udoji’s grit, leadership, and fearless play made him a symbol of what Enyimba stood for.

🛡️ Centre Back — Obinna Nwaneri
A rock during the club’s finest years. Calm, strong in the air, and always reliable. Still around the club today, though I’d love to see him in a more defined role.

⬅️ Left Back — Idris Aloma
Solid and hard-working. Aloma arrived and made the left-back spot his own, pushing big names like Ugwu Uwadiegwu to the fringes. Two seasons, but unforgettable.

⚙️ Midfield Trio
⚙️ Austin Oladapo
A true midfield general. Leadership, skill, and that no-nonsense approach. He carried the team in many big moments, even through personal setbacks.

⚙️ Rasheed Olabiyi
The engine room. Always calm under pressure, his control and work rate gave Enyimba the upper hand in midfield battles time and time again.

⚙️ Onyekachi Okonkwo
A magician. His intelligence and precision passing gave Enyimba creativity and flair. When Sokari was on the ball, anything could happen.

⚡️ Front Three
⚡️ Right Wing — Emeka Nwanna (Ayaya)
Direct and fearless, Ayaya always had defenders on edge. A real menace in the final third with a hunger for goals.

⚡️ Left Wing — Mfon Udoh
Record breaker. Enyimba’s all-time top scorer. Clinical, sharp, and always showed up when it mattered most.

⚡️ Striker — Chijioke Mbaoma
A modern-day finisher. His movement, work ethic, and clutch goals in the 2020s earned him legendary status.

🔁 Bench:
Theophilus Afelokhai, Victor Mbaoma, Uche Kalu, Okey Odita, Nzube Anaezemba, Markson Ojobo, Dare Ojo. So, that’s my list. Like I said earlier, feel free to send in yours.

Back tomorrow.

  1. Love that youBlog comment creation led with joy, BigSam—sometimes we forget how much emotion football brings. Enyeama is a no-brainer, but I was really intrigued by your inclusion of Bright Eseme; he’s one of those players whose calm presence left a subtle but lasting impression. Might just try putting together my own XI after reading this!
