Good morning!
It’s the last Sunday of May, and more significantly, the final matchday of the NPFL season. It’s been quite the journey, and now, here we are — the curtain call.
Plateau United come to town with nothing left to fight for — just like us. They’re safe, no continental ticket on the line. We, on the other hand, had our eyes on the continent… until the penultimate matchday in Lafia, where we stumbled against Nasarawa United. To rub salt in the wound, our little brothers from Umuahia picked up a result that sealed their place ahead of us.
Today’s match, kicking off simultaneously across the league, is more about closure than competition. A final glimpse of our team in action, a chance for one last cheer, one more moment that can stay with us through the long off-season. We just want to leave the stadium with a smile, something to hold on to while the pitch goes quiet.
For the players, this could be a final audition. Some might not wear the Enyimba badge again. What better way to sign off than with a performance worth remembering? Sure, it’s a dead rubber — but football has a funny way of producing magic on days like this. If it’s going to be your last dance, make it count. But don’t overdo it — we still want to win, and win well.
And maybe, just maybe, this is our gaffer’s swan song too. It hasn’t been a dream run, but it’s been far from disastrous. He stepped in on a rescue mission, and while the mission wasn’t fully accomplished, he made us hope. And hope… well, hope plays tricks. It pulls at the heart in ways nothing else can. If this is his final act, one last masterstroke wouldn’t hurt.
As for the management, their minds are likely already on next season — and rightly so. There’s plenty to unpack from this campaign. Still, today’s match, while low on stakes, might offer one last glimpse of something begging for attention.
So when we gather at the Elephant Park this evening, let’s show up. Let’s sing. Let’s support. Let’s do our last for the season — and maybe, just maybe, we’ll find joy.
Kickoff is 4pm. Let’s feast.
Enyimba Enyi!
