Home Chaos, Book Excitement, and the Latest on Coach Ayeni

Good morning All.

It is midweek already and it appears December is on a mission to finish in record time. I want to begin by apologizing for the no-show on the blog yesterday. It was simply one of those days where everything said, “Not today, sir.”

The weather’s crazy negative degrees meant my kids couldn’t even go to school, and suddenly I had more assistants in my study than I ever needed. The only issue? Their idea of “assisting” was turning my study into a mini amusement park. And of course, they could not understand why their dad preferred staring at a screen instead of joining their play-fights and giggles. In the end, I dropped everything and joined them; because I couldnt do anything else. So yes, I couldn’t find one quiet hour to write yesterday. If you need an apology, kindly accept this one.

Now, onto why we’re here.

For weeks now, I’ve been waiting impatiently for a particular book; the story of how Enyimba conquered Africa and ended Nigeria’s long drought in the CAF Champions League. Think of it as the stories behind the story. Not the headlines, but the meat. The author sat with the key figures: Coach Kadiri Ikhana, the big personalities, the unsung heroes, the people who made magic happen 22 years ago.

He squeezed all of this into about 65,000 words. In other words, there is plenty for us to chew on. And the author himself? None other than Solace Chukwu. A man you most likely already know. He took over from me as Enyimba Media Officer, and even though neither of us was anywhere near the club when these events happened, he has always had the gift of telling football stories in ways that grab your collar. Controversial? Sometimes. Excellent? Always.

The book drops December 5th internationally, and ten days later for those back home. And as we’ve already announced on our X page, we will be giving copies to three of our most loyal readers. How we will pick them, I honestly don’t know yet. But a little nudge won’t hurt. Send an email. Tell us why you want it. You never know.

The club still hasn’t announced Coach Deji Ayeni officially — and from what I’ve gathered, it may take a while. The situation is simple: with Eguma’s exit, the club needs to formally close out that chapter before unveiling anyone else as Technical Adviser. In the meantime, Ayeni has resumed quietly as Head Coach. The promotion will come later, once the dust settles.

Anyway, that is your lot today.
See you tomorrow, nice and early, God willing.
