Good morning guys
I actually started writing this post about three hours ago but ended up dozing off with the phone still in my hand. I am still quite sleepy and honestly disappointed that I am putting this out much later than I intended. Sorry guys. It is not always easy.
So, apparently, we are involved in a preseason tournament starting today. The Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico Select Preseason Tournament. It is expected to run simultaneously in Aba and Enugu. I say expected because, truthfully, in this day and age, an event of this size has no real online footprint. I am not trying to be critical for the sake of it, but if you want to be taken seriously, you have to show up online. That is just the way the world works now.
I eventually found the schedule, but only because someone shared it in a WhatsApp group. Maybe the organizers think that is enough. But when you have clubs like Enyimba and Rangers involved, with massive followings, fans want to be kept in the loop. Even if it is just a preseason tournament. Just look at the European clubs.
What is even more ironic is that I found better information from Kun Khalifat. A new side, yet they had their fixtures nicely designed and shared online. Meanwhile, the organizers of a tournament in its eighth edition cannot be bothered to post fixtures or set up an official page. It is frustrating.
Then there is the schedule itself. These teams are expected to play every day for five straight days? Really? Are these 45 minute games? Is there anywhere else in the world where this happens? It just feels off.
I get that the squads are large and coaches will rotate players, but what is the point of such an intense schedule? How does it prepare anyone for a proper season? If someone understands this better than me, please educate me. I am open to learning.
Perhaps there will be a press conference and someone can raise these questions. If you are in the room and you do ask, please share the responses or videos. It would be great to follow along.
On a brighter note, we finally get to see what the 2025 2026 Enyimba looks like. As always with preseason, it is not about the result but the performance. That said, let us not start by getting spanked. And I wish these matches were streamed.
It is easy to say media does not matter but set up a proper stream and market it right, and you will find twenty thousand fans happy to pay two hundred Naira for access to all group matches. That is at least four million Naira. And setting it up will not even cost one million. Seems like a decent return to me.
Ignoring media in this age will cost you more than you realise.
Back tomorrow
