End of The Season Report Card: Uwana Asuquo

Good morning Enyimba Fans

It’s great to see some shocking results at the Club World Cup; Honestly I’m tempted to tag it a Competition of the underdogs(lol). The ‘smaller teams’ especially those from Brazil are punching above their weight to the surprise of most football fans all over the world. I still wish Enyimba was part of this competition but then, Genie- the magical fairy being isn’t here to grant me these wishes.

Today I want to talk about one of our players who has been with the team for quite sometime- Uwana Asuquo. Metaphorically speaking, he’s been ‘baptized by water and the Spirit of the Elephant’ Throughout this season, injuries limited his impact like a lot of our players, but even when not fully fit, Uwana was our best option at right-back. His effort and willingness to give his all deserve recognition, and he’s shown glimpses of the quality that makes him a valuable asset.

Uwana joined us from Dakkada FC in 2022/23, and his versatility—mainly as a right-back but also capable of playing right midfield—makes him a useful player. In his limited appearances this season, he contributed 3 assists in 17 games across all competitions, and for those of us who watched him, we knew he had something special. His pace, crossing, and defensive qualities make him a modern full-back, capable of both defending solidly and supporting the attack.

Tactically, I think that Uwana’s strength lies in his ability to overlap and deliver dangerous crosses and boy, he is good at it, also supporting our attack from the right flank. He has the pace and dribbling skills to threaten opponents as a winger. With proper fitness and training, he can develop into a dual threat—defending well and contributing offensively, providing us with more tactical flexibility.

If Uwana remains with us, he has a real opportunity to make a greater impact on the team. While I’m not a physiotherapist and I am not thinking of being one(😂), I believe that the key to keeping Uwana fit and healthy lies in improving his recovery routines, focusing on strength training, and making necessary adjustments to his training regimen. Staying healthy will help him be more consistent, support us in difficult matches, and contribute more energy and creativity to the team.

In conclusion, I rate him 5/10, Uwana is a talented player with the potential to be a major influence for Enyimba. With improved fitness and tactical growth, he can become even more impactful and help us challenge on all fronts next season. We all hope he stays committed and continues to develop, because when fit and firing, Uwana Asuquo can be a real game-changer for the club.

Back Tomorrow!
