Head coach Stanley Eguma says last week’s frustrating draw at home to Nasarawa United spurred Enyimba to their 2–0 victory over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa on Sunday.
“The draw in Aba pushed us to fight for the full points,” Eguma said after the match. “The players decided they would come here to play their hearts out. We controlled the game from start to finish, missed chances early on but stayed committed and followed the plan perfectly.”
Eguma acknowledged Bayelsa United’s efforts but insisted Enyimba were the stronger side and fully deserved the result.
Substitute Chidera broke the deadlock in the 76th minute before stand-in captain Kalu Nweke, who had not featured in the previous three matches, sealed the win with a long-range strike.
“The strike came from practice drills encouraged by the coach,” Nweke said. “I was glad that when I tried it in the game today, it went in.”
The victory maintained Enyimba’s unbeaten start to the season and extended their run of clean sheets, leaving them among the few NPFL teams yet to concede. The People’s Elephant now top the standings with eight points from four matches and host Bendel Insurance next in Aba.
