Are we excited? Absolutely! Every matchday gives us another opportunity to see our team, feel that adrenaline rush and have our hearts racing for 90 minutes. That is a lot of emotional work, but somehow, it adds an extra spice to our lives. For football fans, matchdays have a way of making us feel alive!<\/p>\n
Our boys are already in Kano and have spent two nights there, which is a good thing. We have been arriving relatively early for our away games this season, and whether you like it or not, that gives the players enough time to recover from the long road trips that come with playing away from home. We can only hope they have also had enough time to recharge mentally and physically because today, they need to be ready to fight with everything they have.<\/p>\n
This may be our worst start to a season of all time, but it does not mean the fight is over. If anything, this is the time to remind ourselves that football has a funny way of turning things around when you least expect it. We may have stumbled badly out of the blocks, but there is still plenty of road ahead. Apologies if I have with this, jinxed it for the week.<\/p>\n
Kano Pillars underwent a mini-restructuring at the end of last season after they, like us, narrowly escaped relegation. Ahmed Musa left his role as General Manager, while Ogunmodede arrived from Remo Stars as the new coach. Along with him came a handful of players from Remo Stars, mixed with other experienced legs from around the league.<\/p>\n
The result so far? After four matches, Pillars remain unbeaten and are within touching distance of the summit. That is the kind of turnaround we would love to see at Enyimba, although football rarely follows the same script twice.<\/p>\n
Our story has been the complete opposite, despite playing the same number of matches. Four matches, four defeats. But we are not staying down!\u00a0This is a marathon, not a sprint, and until we are mathematically out of the race, we are still in it. That is the mentality the boys must carry when they walk onto the pitch at the Sani Abacha Stadium today at 4pm.<\/p>\n
Our assistant coach has already reiterated that the objective for the season remains unchanged: secure a Continental ticket. The team has also maintained that they are mentally, physically and tactically prepared for this game and are optimistic about leaving Kano with something to show for the journey.<\/p>\n
We need that confidence to translate into action.<\/p>\n
We are praying earnestly for a turnaround because every game we throw away takes something from us. It chips away at confidence, belief and momentum, and nobody wants to navigate a difficult season with an empty confidence tank.<\/p>\n
Today, we need to see the fight, the hunger and an Enyimba side that understands that the season is still alive and that every point matters. We need to see a team willing to dig deep, stand tall and remind everyone that the People\u2019s Elephant is still very much in this fight.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s give our right arm for this, guys!<\/p>\n
