One of the strangest things about supporting Enyimba these days is that supporters often learn more about the club from everyone else than from the club itself. By now, Samuel Anakwe’s move to Enyimba<\/a> has been reported across several football platforms<\/a> and is widely regarded as a completed deal. Yet if you relied solely on the club’s official communication channels, you would hardly know anything had happened.<\/p>\n

That silence has almost become part of Enyimba’s identity in recent times. Whether it concerns transfers, contracts or major decisions, supporters are often left piecing together information from journalists and other clubs before hearing from their own. It is a communication style many fans have grown used to, but one that remains difficult to understand.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, this article is not about communication. It is about football. More specifically, it is about why Samuel Anakwe appears to be exactly the kind of signing Enyimba should be making.<\/p>\n

Oscar Wilde once said, “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.”<\/em> That quote perfectly captured Enyimba’s transfer window until recently. While other clubs announced arrivals and departures with confidence, Enyimba’s plans remained shrouded in uncertainty. The confirmation may not have come from the club itself, but at least the conversation has finally shifted from speculation about inactivity to discussion about recruitment.<\/p>\n

And if the reports are accurate<\/a>, this is a very good place to start.<\/p>\n

The first thing Samuel Anakwe brings to Enyimba is not simply pace or versatility. He brings the experience of winning. As a member of Remo Stars’ title-winning squad, he understands what it takes to remain consistent over an entire league campaign. Winning cultures are built by players who have experienced success before, and that mentality can spread through a dressing room just as quickly as confidence spreads through a winning team.<\/p>\n

That experience could prove invaluable to some of Enyimba’s younger attackers. Players like Samuel Okechukwu and Nelson Sule continue to show enormous promise, but young footballers develop faster when they train and compete alongside experienced professionals who understand the demands of challenging for major honours. Healthy competition raises standards, and standards are exactly what this squad must raise if it hopes to avoid another disappointing season.<\/p>\n

There is also the matter of Anakwe’s versatility. Modern football increasingly demands attackers who can operate across multiple positions, and that flexibility gives any coach more tactical options over the course of a long season. Whether starting from the wings or playing through the middle, he offers qualities that can make Enyimba’s attack less predictable and more dangerous.<\/p>\n

His record at Remo Stars also deserves respect. Breaking into a title-winning side is never easy, especially when you are competing alongside quality attacking players every week. Yet Anakwe still found a way to make meaningful contributions. That says a great deal about both his ability and his mentality.<\/p>\n

As encouraging as this signing appears, however, it should only be the beginning.<\/p>\n

One of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most famous observations was that attack wins matches while defence wins titles. Last season, Enyimba became living proof of that philosophy. The People’s Elephant scored enough goals to compete with many of the league’s strongest sides, but defensive lapses repeatedly turned promising performances into costly disappointments. Scoring 44 goals while conceding 42 tells the story of a team that could threaten opponents but struggled just as much to protect itself.<\/p>\n

That is why recruitment cannot stop with Samuel Anakwe. If the ambition is to return to continental football\u2014and eventually compete for league titles again\u2014Enyimba must strengthen the spine of the team. The defence requires experienced additions, the squad needs greater balance and every signing should fit into a clearly defined footballing vision rather than being viewed in isolation.<\/p>\n

More importantly, supporters deserve to see evidence that lessons have been learnt from last season. Recruitment should never be about making headlines. It should be about building a squad capable of competing from August until May without flirting with another relegation battle.<\/p>\n

Samuel Anakwe looks like a signing that makes football sense. He is proven in the NPFL, arrives with the mentality of a champion and possesses qualities that should improve Enyimba’s attacking options immediately. Those are exactly the types of players the club should be targeting.<\/p>\n
