It is another Thursday
My favourite day for sitting back and letting the mind wander. Some people call it “Throwback Thursday”, a time to dust off old photos, old memories, and compare them to where we are now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For us at Enyimba though, looking back is complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you glance at the past, the trophies, the glory, and the days we made Africa shake, you will feel sadness. If you glance at the current season, our position, the points and the struggle, you will feel disappointment. Mix both together and you get fear, doubt, and just a tiny sprinkle of optimism. A proper emotional cocktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We used to be the model. The standard. The club every other team wanted to copy. But that is exactly what we used to be. A history so massive that today\u2019s reality looks like a dwarf standing in a giant\u2019s shadow. And the highest possible achievement this season? Surviving. Staying up. For a club like Enyimba, that sentence should never be normal. Not even once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, if we decide to look behind us on the NPFL table, I mean a critical look, we will discover the names back there are not plenty. Kano Pillars is there, yes. They have tasted relegation before. But the others? In our glory days, they would need to beg for permission just to sit at the same table with us. Now look where we all are. Football moves fast. Sometimes too fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But here is the thing. All hope is not lost. Not yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the point where survival mode becomes a plan, not a prayer. One game. One opponent. One result at a time. And please, let us stop comparing this current team to the glory days as a measuring stick for ninety minutes. That comparison will crush them. The pressure will swallow them whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Does that mean we should abandon the ambition of returning to the top? Of course not. Nobody falls from the roof and decides to build a bungalow in the gutter. But if you fall and choose to stay down, if you embrace mediocrity or just stagnate and wave at passing time, then you deserve a memory jumpstart. A serious reality check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So when we say do not look back to avoid pressure, we are not asking for complacency. We will never stop demanding more. We see clearly what this management has done to standards. We see clearly what we have become. And while we keep reminding everyone, management, players, coaches and all the loud people with titles, that steady rise is non negotiable, we also know that living one match at a time might be the only way to rise again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Forget the victories of the last decade for a moment. Focus on winning the next one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
