Today\u2019s blog is coming in super late and I apologize. The past 24 to 48 hours have been a bit of a whirlwind, and just as life would have it, all my coauthors on this blog are off on vacation. So the responsibility has fallen squarely on me, right alongside everything else I\u2019ve got going on. But no worries, let\u2019s get into it. There\u2019s quite a bit to chew on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, I was invited to a radio show in Port Harcourt to discuss Enyimba matters. One of the main topics was about player wages, particularly a rumor that some players are earning as little as N50K per month. My immediate reaction was disbelief. Honestly, I still don\u2019t think that\u2019s the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sure, I\u2019ve heard stories about pinching pennies from Oga SD (and yes, I\u2019m sure you know what SD means), but having an Enyimba player on a N50K salary? That\u2019s hard to believe. Back in the day, Hon. Nduka Irabor the then LMC Chairman made it a point to ensure that no player in the league earned less than N149,999. And that was ten years ago. So the idea that someone is earning N50K today, at Enyimba of all clubs? I just don\u2019t buy it. Prove me wrong, anyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That said, with the current Enyimba management, we\u2019ve seen stranger things. So if it turned out to be true, it wouldn\u2019t be the most shocking thing. But ultimately, it speaks to the value or lack of it that\u2019s placed on this club and its people. For now though, I consider that story complete nonsense, and I made sure to debunk it on air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What\u2019s not nonsense, however, is the growing tension within the club\u2019s administration. Clearly, there are factions, individuals who believe they\u2019ve put in their time and now deserve to run the show. But at the end of the day, the real test is simple, what is your vision for this club?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another thing on my mind today is the unfortunate news about Coach Kadiri Ikhana\u2019s health. Some photos of him surfaced online recently, and they were heartbreaking. Beyond being an AFCON winner, Coach Ikhana holds legendary status at this club. We cherish him deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why I want us to do something special for him today. Let\u2019s flood his phone with goodwill messages, get well wishes, and notes of appreciation for everything he\u2019s done for the club. It means so much more to show love while someone is still with us than to craft beautiful tributes after they are gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
