I must say that it\u2019s been quite difficult not having league football on our plastic screens, and even though the club World Cup is ongoing, honestly, it\u2019s not giving me the same vibe as a proper league match. I miss the fun, the thrill, and especially the banter\u2014those moments when we troll Arsenal and Chelsea fans. I can\u2019t wait for the league to kick off again. I\u2019m sure you share that same feeling too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On our end of season review, we\u2019re looking at one of our former captains\u2014well, former because news has it that he\u2019s pitched his tent elsewhere, and I\u2019ll tell you where. I\u2019m talking about Alalibo Somiari. He\u2019s been one of those players who truly embodies the spirit of Enyimba. Over the years, he\u2019s shown a lot of heart, dedication, and discipline at the heart of our defense. Playing as a central defender, often pairing with Paschal Eze\u2014who, by the way, is like the fire to his ice\u2014he brought a calmness and organization to our backline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ve always admired his ability to read the game. That was the first thing I noticed when I saw him play for Dakkada FC and I think that was why we bought him\u2014his knack for intercepting passes and distributing the ball calmly from the back is quite commendable. His contributions, especially during our league-winning run of 2022\/2023, were vital in providing stability and leadership when we needed it most. No doubt, he\u2019s been a true Elephant, and his presence on the pitch has always been reassuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That said, injuries have really been a concern for him, especially last season. It\u2019s been frustrating to watch him struggle with fitness, which limited his appearances and affected his consistency. Whenever he was fit and on the pitch, he showed the class and composure we\u2019ve come to expect. But after coming back from a long layoff, I felt he wasn’t quite the same player\u2014he looked flat in some games, and it showed in his performance. Injuries even caused him to lose his starting spot to guys like Chikamso, Innocent Gabriel, and Afolayan Peters. It\u2019s unfortunate because you could see the quality he still has when fully fit, but those setbacks really hampered his impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before the end of the season, news broke that Enyimba and Alalibo mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Sometimes football takes these difficult turns, and it\u2019s always a tough decision for everyone involved. Reports are indicating that he\u2019s now with Rivers United, reuniting with former Enyimba coach and ex-Super Eagles star Finidi George. It\u2019s always good to see players move on and continue their careers elsewhere. I genuinely hope he finds stability and stays injury-free at Rivers United. It\u2019s a fresh start for him, and I believe he\u2019ll bring his experience, calmness, and leadership there, just as he did here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Honestly, we\u2019re really going to miss Alalibo. He\u2019s been more than just a player; he\u2019s been part of our family\u2014a true Elephant in heart. His contribution, especially during our league-winning season, will always be remembered. While his recent season was marred by injuries, and I\u2019d give him a rating of 4.5 out of 10, I truly appreciate all he\u2019s done for Enyimba. I wish him nothing but success in his new chapter. Whatever the future holds, I hope he stays injury-free, continues to enjoy football, and shows everyone that he still has what it takes. Good luck, Alalibo!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
