It\u2019s been one helluva season for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sure, it\u2019s not over yet, but by now, we pretty much know how it\u2019s gone. We can already trace our trajectory, and if we\u2019re being honest, we have an idea of where we might finish\u2014unless hope decides to write a miracle ending. It\u2019s a flicker, no doubt, but\u00a0hope,<\/em>\u00a0as they say,\u00a0is that thing with feathers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n And speaking of hope, there are two major things we\u2019re hanging onto as this long, winding season approaches its final stretch. No matter where you stand\u2014whether you think everything\u2019s fine and smooth, or you see the cracks and call them out, or you\u2019re in that third group that just goes with the flow passionately\u2014these two hopes unite us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interestingly, they both boil down to one goal: a ticket to the Continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First, we\u2019re eyeing the President Federation Cup<\/em>. It\u2019s tricky, difficult, and unpredictable\u2014but also our most direct route to continental football. Win it, and we get a clean ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup, along with a shot at some serious revenue and redemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We\u2019re just five matches away from lifting that trophy. The journey resumes tomorrow against Abakaliki FC\u2014and we\u2019ll dive deeper into that in tomorrow\u2019s blog. For now, we just need to stay focused, play smart, and fight like a team that still has something to prove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, the second hope is snatching a continental spot through the NPFL. But that one? Even trickier. We\u2019re currently five points off the relegation zone and six behind third place\u2014our most realistic Continental target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our season has been a topsy-turvy<\/em> mess. While we\u2019ve \u201conly\u201d lost nine games (all away), we\u2019ve also lost our aura at home. That fear factor we used to enjoy at the Enyimba Stadium? It\u2019s gone. Teams now show up in Aba with their chests out and teasing us – daring us to beat them at our home turf. Guys, even relegation-threatened sides. What a shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Honestly, I\u2019m of the opinion that if we truly want to return to the top, next season\u2019s planning should have already started. Maybe Continental football shouldn\u2019t even be our biggest goal\u2014getting our house in order should be. Because after four transfer windows (or 3\u00bd, depending on how you count it), our recent signings haven\u2019t been upgrades. Our biggest contributors are still the old guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If and thats a big If we somehow land a Continental ticket\u2014great. If or when we do, then we must start planning for it NOW. Not when the draws come out. Not after pre-season. Not mid-season.
