Good morning Everyone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I pondered how to get started with this blog post today, my thoughts went to some posts I had seen in the height of Coach Yema\u2019s barrage of draws at the club. Someone called him a P.E Teacher. Someone insulted him cos of his “knocked knees”. Every imaginable insult was hurled at him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The response of the club was to fire him. And no, those draws were inexcusable. But Yema was hung out to dry. The Enyimba Management sacrificed a young dynamic and brilliant Coach for the “experienced” Eguma. And except this is your first day on the blog, you know me – I’m not a fan of Kanu or Ekwueme or Stanley Eguma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The results we see are not surprising – we lost to the 19th placed team on the log. A team odds on to go down at the end of the season. A team playing in a home ground away from their traditional home. A team that has shipped in 46 goals this term – the most in the League. Yet they scored 2 against us. And Oh yea, I tweeted this outcome last week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The problem with a Coach like Eguma is he is so versed in the league that every away game is an automatic defeat. They’ve been cultured that way and so such results are more or less expected. There is no expectation of winning on away turf – the league has taught them so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe the defense deserves some blame. When Coach Yema got the boot, our backline was the toughest in the league\u2014conceding the least. Away from home, you\u2019d need to be absolutely brilliant to get past us at your own ground. Same players, yet something\u2019s off. What happened?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The match story talked about our Continental aspirations. Perhaps we should make it to the Continent because of our pedigree but everyone knows – this Enyimba is a shadow of its old and glorified self. Do we even deserve to make it to the Continent? Not with this bunch. Not with this manager, Not with the current management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s 2 a.m., and I\u2019m at my desk, consumed by thoughts of Enyimba. A senior colleague once said Kanu and Ekwueme\u2019s Enyimba never keeps him up at night. For me, it\u2019s different\u2014this club haunts me. I\u2019m troubled by our current state. Deep down, I wonder: do Kanu Nwankwo and Ifeanyi Ekwueme even care about the club\u2019s decline?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I doubt it. They\u2019ve shown no real passion for Enyimba. To them, it feels like just another slice of the national pie to carve up. That\u2019s what\u2019s keeping me awake right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
