Good morning, all.
It has been a while. We seemed to disappear right in the middle of our most important run-in, but that was not exactly by choice. Our website developed a backend issue that kept us from publishing for a few weeks. By the time the technical team resolved it, we had unfortunately lost our rhythm.
If that does not sound like a good enough explanation, I understand. But honestly, that is exactly what happened. Please accept my sorry in peace. T for thanks.
The other reason, of course, was the never-ending madness surrounding the club. Enyimba FC can be an incredibly chaotic place. There always seems to be another controversy around the corner and, thankfully, many of those stories never make it into the public domain.
Let me explain.
After we successfully escaped relegation, information began to emerge suggesting that certain individuals within the club deliberately sabotaged the team during the closing stages of the season. Some of those disappointing results including home matches reportedly formed part of that sabotage. I struggled to accept it myself at first. But from everything gathered, it did happen.
As much as I wanted to see Kanu’s administration leave Enyimba, nothing justifies sacrificing results. In Europe, you sometimes see players down tools to force out a manager. But deliberately pushing your own club to the brink of relegation simply to undermine an administration is disgraceful. Anyone capable of doing that has no place anywhere near Enyimba FC. It is a privilege to serve a club that means so much to so many people. To intentionally destroy that joy for personal gain is unforgivable.
The matter eventually reached the State Governor, who made his position clear. Hopefully, this serves as a warning to anyone tempted to put personal interests above the club in the future.
One lesson from last season is that the club is bigger than any individual. Bigger than any chairman, coach, player, or administrator. Administrations will come and go. Coaches will come and go. Players will arrive and depart. But the badge must always come first. Once personal agendas outweigh the success of the club, everyone loses.
The bright spark is that a new season always brings a fresh opportunity. There are decisions to make, mistakes to correct, and confidence to rebuild. The expectation cannot simply be to avoid another relegation battle. This is Enyimba Football Club. The standards have always been much higher than survival, and everyone the club entrusts with leadership must meet those standards.
With the season now behind us, the focus shifts to recruitment, restructuring, decisions regarding the technical crew, and setting realistic targets for the new campaign. There will be plenty to discuss in the days ahead.
Here on the blog, we are making a few changes as well. You will find out more about those soon enough.
It is a beautiful Monday. Enjoy it the best way you can.
We will be back tomorrow.
Enyimba Enyi.
