Good morning, Enyimba fans!

We’ve tried to brighten the mood today, but it feels like we’re stuck in a week of bad vibes. And just when you think things can’t get worse, the NPFL Board drops a bombshell: they’ve officially withdrawn the licenses of newly registered players from nine clubs, and yes, including Enyimba. Ouch.

Here’s an excerpt of a letter from Davidson Owumi, the league’s Chief Operating Officer, which confirms the mess:

As a result of this non-compliance, the licenses of the following newly transferred and registered players for the 2024/2025 season are hereby indefinitely withdrawn, effective from MatchDay 10.

Translation? Unless the club sorts out its issues with certain players, 18 of our boys could find themselves sidelined, unregistered, and unplayable. Not ideal, especially with the interesting but fierce battle for the league title already underway.

Now, here’s where it really stings. For a club that’s sitting on a fat monthly paycheck from its backers—The Abia State Government, failing to pay an “ordinary” ₦6.2 million in total to Stephen Chukwude and Chijioke Akuneto since August is beyond frustrating. Sure, the new management might claim they inherited these debts from the old regime, but hey, that’s part of the gig—you take the throne, you also take the skeletons in the closet.

It’s been echoed on this blog that income generation is the least of this club’s problems. The number one problem is when round pegs are put in square holes. When people think to themselves that Enyimba is all about collecting the monthly bounty from the Government, maybe one or two player sales. But there are other means of generating revenue. Listing them out here won’t happen again. Maybe you need.to consult with us. Send us an email – thatenyimbafan@mail.com.

I’m holding out hope that this won’t drag on and affect the players’ mentality ahead of Sunday’s game. Knowing there’s a looming ban can seriously mess with their heads. We need these guys sharp, not stressing about whether they’ll even be allowed to step on the pitch.

Ill dedicate one paragraph to question the true intentions of the people who are currently ruining running the club. Here’s a team with its fair share of challenges to the start of the season. But look, we are still in the Continent and will probably be at least 6 more matchdays. We have had some decent and not too decent results in the League and this young team with its young coach is unsure who will be eligible to play this weekend.

It’s a real shame for a club with Enyimba’s legacy to be tangled up in contract disputes and thumbing its nose at the NFF. Unlawful terminations? Check. Ignoring orders from the licensing body? Double check. Not a great look for the People’s Elephant. For those who think we are unjustly attacking the club, well you be the judge of that.

We’ll see how the next few matchdays unfold, but for now, all we can do is hope the situation gets fixed quickly. Maybe tomorrow will bring some good news.

Fingers crossed!

Enyimba Enyi!
