Good day All,
Here we are, the first Matchday of the 2025/2026 Season. Like we said yesterday, today marks the beginning of our journey to reclaim the League title. The chairman has been very clear about our target for this season and we are fully behind it.
The team arrived in Kano on Friday afternoon and had their warm ups yesterday. From the images, the boys looked as laser focused as you would expect. We still await confirmation on who the captains will be this season. My guess? Pascal Eze, and possibly Joseph Atule.
The unveiling of new faces in the squad has also been delayed. From what I understand, the late arrival of Joma merchandise has held things up. So chances are we will see new players in the lineup before they are officially presented. Not ideal, but manageable.
Our opponents Barau FC may be newcomers, but they are drilled by one of the League’s longest serving managers, Ladan Bosso. He is strict, no nonsense, and battle tested. Just like Eguma, his longevity is well earned. That means we are expecting an opponent who will be disciplined, well drilled, and eager to impress.
Information about Barau is still scarce. From what I gather, the club is privately owned by Senator Barau Jibrin, who set it up to reduce unemployment among young people and to “make it a global brand.” What that means in terms of structure, consistency, and quality on the pitch is something we will only know with time. But facing them first might not be a bad thing, especially if we arrive ready.
They will be using Kano Pillars Sani Abacha Stadium. Could a borrowed “home turf” with fewer fans in the stands tilt the balance in our favor? I pray it does.
The past week has been intense in terms of preparation, and the chairman has matched his words with action, pushing the team with the right motivation as we set off on this title charge.
Kickoff is at 4pm.
Live updates will ooze from our Twitter platform, and as always, you can expect the full match report and reviews here tomorrow.
Till then,
