Ready or Not, The New NPFL Season Is Almost Here!

We’re halfway through the week, and the countdown has truly begun—the 2025/26 NPFL season is upon us!

While most teams have ramped up their preseason preparations and fans around the country are adjusting their sights for the new campaign, things around Enyimba still feel a bit uncertain. On Monday, during the NPFL Annual General Meeting in Abuja, our club made an appearance; not on the main agenda, but in a side issue that’s quite the buzz to get a comment from the NPFL board supremo.

Whether you consider it honourable or not, the ₦7,000–₦8,000 issue raised by Brown Ideye during his podcast appearance triggered enough noise that the NPFL Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, had to summon the club management for some needed clarifications. The fallout continues, and sadly, fans are left with more questions than clarity.

Still, let’s focus on what matters most—the fixtures are out! Enyimba will begin our 2025/26 NPFL journey away to newly promoted Barau FC. Venue? Likely Kano, though their home ground is yet to be officially confirmed.

Our history against debutant sides is promising, but let’s not forget: hope isn’t a strategy. You can find out more from yesterday’s blog.

We pulled out of the Eko International Cup—a move many fans are still scratching their heads about. It would have offered our players (new and returning) a chance to shake off rust and build momentum. It would’ve also given the technical crew a live testing ground for tactical setups. Fortunately, we’ll be hosting the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico Select Preseason Tournament, and that’s something to hold onto.

But honestly, everything feels… quiet. Too quiet.

Are we being strategic and discreet, or are we simply behind? While Enyimba rumours fly—Player A out, Player B spotted in training, Player C unseen—our rivals are moving. Rangers, our age-old Oriental foes, are making bold statements with transfers and updates. Kano Pillars are buzzing with a new-board energy. We, on the other hand, are living on whispers.

Questions linger:
Where is Clinton Jephthah?
What happened to the Joma kit deal that was “at the discussion stage”?
Who’s replacing the exits? Who’s staying?
The fans deserve answers.

August 22 is fast approaching. The league will begin—with or without us being fully ready. If we aren’t proactive now, we might pay the price with a sluggish start to the season. That’s something we simply cannot afford.

Let’s see what the days ahead bring.

Enyimba Enyi!

  1. It’s always exciting when the new season kicks off, but it sounds like Enyimba has some serious internal issues to resolve. Hopefully, they can shake off the distractions and deliver on the pitch. I’m curious to see how Barau FC will perform, especially since they’re debuting in the league.
