End Of The Season Report Card: Brown Ideye

Good morning Enyimba Fans,

There’s no other place to start than to pay respects to Liverpool’s Diego Jota and our own Peter Rufai who both passed on yesterday. Events like this remind us of how blessed one is to wake up every morning. Life is precious, and tomorrow is not promised; why not live a life of love, compasion and kindness toward others? May their souls find rest, Amen.

Our National team players hardly ever return to the NPFL while still “active”—or even “passive,” you might want to add 😂. But lately, there’s been a real shift: Shehu Abdullahi came back, Ahmed Musa’s move to Kano Pillars made headlines, and Enyimba topped it off by signing Brown Ideye.

When Brown Ideye landed in Aba during the Mid-season transfer window, you could feel the buzz around town. Kanu and the Enyimba management meant business, and bringing in a player of Brown’s calibre especially with Ahmed Musa already lighting up the NPFL was a clear statementt that Enyimba could still pull the biggest names.

Brown didn’t waste time making his mark. That goal against Black Bulls in Uyo during the CAF Confederation Cup? Pure class. Then there was the showdown with Kano Pillars- everyone wanted to see Musa vs. Ideye, but Musa missed out. No wahala, because Brown gave us that sweet, European-style finish that sent the stadium wild as we beat Pillars 2-1. In total, he played 13 games and netted 5 goals. Not bad at all, considering our attack was struggling and injuries were messing with our plans.

Let’s not forget that viral dressing room speech, Brown’s words fired up the boys, and you could see the difference on the pitch immediately. He bagged a brace against Kwara United in Aba and another goal against Black Bulls of Maputo. Even though he didn’t always get the minutes he deserved, his experience and leadership were priceless, especially during our injury crisis. His presence alone seemed to lift the spirits of the team, especially during those tough patches.

For me, I’d rate Brown Ideye a solid 6.5/10 this season. He brought hope, quality, and some unforgettable moments to Enyimba fans. Now that his contract is up and he’s moving on, all I can say is: thank you, Senior Man Brown. You’ll always have a place in our hearts, and we wish you nothing but the best on your next adventure.

Back Tomorrow!
