Good Morning Enyimba Fans!
On our review today, we will be looking at a player who has been quite exceptional for the Peoples Elephants, No other player than-Imo Obots who wears the jersey number ‘29’ for our darling team.
Imo Obot has been quite a player for Enyimba, no doubt about that. Since leaving Dakkada FC five years ago and coming to Aba, he’s really shown his attacking side and he’s not afraid to shoot from long range, some of the goals he’s scored from outside the box are simply stunning. His ability to strike from over 30 yards, especially free kicks, makes him a real threat going forward, and I love that about him.
But honestly, it’s frustrating to see him struggle with injuries so often. It feels like he’s been in and out of the treatment room more than he’s been on the pitch. When he does play, his impact is felt. This season, he only managed 20 appearances in the league and three appearances in the CAF champions confederations cup and I remembered his crucial goal against Rivers United in Aba on February 15th 2025. Imo obots got one assist this season, which isn’t a lot, but it’s clear he can create chances when he’s fit.
I believe he needs to work more on his defensive duties. He’s more attack-minded than a typical defender, and sometimes I wonder if he forgets his primary job which is to protect our goal. He doesn’t have the top speed to always track back quickly if he’s caught up the field, and that could hurt us in tight situations and sometimes it did hurt us. However, I really hope he can improve in this area because he has so much potential to be one of the best left backs in the league and elsewhere.
I believe Obot had the skillset to mirror the ability of players like Gvardiol or Alphonso Davies who excel both going forward and defending. That’s the kind of player I believe he can become with more focus and consistency. For now, I’d give him a 5.5/10. Whenever he’s on the pitch, he definitely gives us options going forward and he’s got that special long-range shot. But if he wants to truly stand out and secure his spot, he needs to focus on his defending and avoid injuries.
In my heart, I believe with the right mindset and some adjustments, Imo Obot can become a real legend for Enyimba. I just hope he stays healthy and keeps working on that balance because when he’s in form, he’s a delight to watch
