Thoughts on the President’s Federation Cup.

Good morning People of the Elephant.

What a title. People of the Elephant. For real though, isn’t that the literal translation of “Ndi Enyimba”? Regardless, I still think its a weird name. Emyimba faithful sounds more like it. So how about a Good morning Enyimba Faithful?

Its been quiet as per real news out of the club. Not like nothing is happening but the Enyimba management cult wont let any cats out of the bag until we see the players reportedly seen at other camps. Even that is a stretch by itself, especially at this stage of the season.

Yesterday, Abakaliki FC, remember them? Yep. Those folks that effectively ended our President’s Federation Cup run. Well, they kept up with their giant killing spree knocking out Ikorodu United from the Cup. They pushed the Lagos team all the way to penalties. And that’s how they landed in the finals.

Stuff of dreams if you ask me because, how does a side incapable of a serious League campaign in the lower division just pull out their inner Athletico Madrid and refuse to “die”? They can look back and take pride in the giants they have slain along the way.

The other semifinal saw Rangers lose narrowly to Kwara United. Something is definitely wrong at Rangers. Maybe someday the gist of what truly happened/is happening will come to the limelight. But Rangers have lost a lot of games especially at home. Kwara will face Abakaliki FC in the finals.
For me ill say congratulations to the finalists. You however can’t help but think of what happens when either of them get that Continental ticket. What will a side struggling in the lower division offer in the Continent? Simple Question from a very honest place.

Its same for Kwara United. With all due respect, aren’t we looking at another “Also-rans” who may never even make it to the CAF Confederations Cup Group stage. I’m not hating – I’m being realistic. Perhaps we need to evaluate the route to these competitions.

This is not by any means an attempt to make light of the efforts these teams have put in to earn their place in the finals. They deserve it – but there must be something better, befitting upgrades than their respective  current playing and coaching squad.

That’s ya lot for today.

Back tomorrow
