“Enyimba’s Future: Success Must Be Earned”

Good Morning Everyone,

There hasn’t been alot news streaming out of the Enyimba camp this week. Not surprising in the least seeing that we have ended this season very emptyhanded and not even a consolatory Continental place for our troubles. That last line bothers me a great deal – and ill tell you why in a second.

We are viewed as the biggest club in Nigeria. We’ve made the history- won all laurels through the years and boast of being Nigeria’s most successful club. However, the trouble with all that  is that assumption that we will get whatever we want, beat anyone we want, just because we are Enyimba.

But as we know, it doesnt work like that. A Coach wont automatically win games because he’s managing Enyimba and has access to the best players. Success in a club with such pedigree as ours mean that the bar is so highly set, you have to be exceptional to match it or better it.

Which explains why these unprofessional professionals around the club who cannot seem to figure out how success is created are having such a torrid time running the club. In Nigeria, anyone can jump out of a motor park with zero training and preparation and they feel they can step into any position.

We are in real danger of becoming a yesteryear’s club. You know like Leeds United. Or like Shooting Stars, Heartland clubs with more historic success than present. Which is why we have been preaching that the club must take stock of what has transpired this season and be resolute for changes.

Right now, there is a disconnect between the Aba fans and the club management. This must be bridged. In the days ahead, we will share on how the club can return the fans to the stands. Yes, Nigeria is “hard” but people can still find N1000 to come watch their darling club every fortnight.

It is bad enough that the club is currently being piloted by people who have zero experience in running a football club. But nothing stops them from surrounding themselves with bright minds and ideas. They can paper over the naivety that has been the hallmark of this season.

That’s all I got today. Back tomorrow.
