Continental Dreams and Domestic Realities

Good morning, Enyimba faithful,

It’s been one helluva season for us.

Sure, it’s not over yet, but by now, we pretty much know how it’s gone. We can already trace our trajectory, and if we’re being honest, we have an idea of where we might finish—unless hope decides to write a miracle ending. It’s a flicker, no doubt, but hope, as they say, is that thing with feathers.

And speaking of hope, there are two major things we’re hanging onto as this long, winding season approaches its final stretch. No matter where you stand—whether you think everything’s fine and smooth, or you see the cracks and call them out, or you’re in that third group that just goes with the flow passionately—these two hopes unite us all.

Interestingly, they both boil down to one goal: a ticket to the Continent.

First, we’re eyeing the President Federation Cup. It’s tricky, difficult, and unpredictable—but also our most direct route to continental football. Win it, and we get a clean ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup, along with a shot at some serious revenue and redemption.

We’re just five matches away from lifting that trophy. The journey resumes tomorrow against Abakaliki FC—and we’ll dive deeper into that in tomorrow’s blog. For now, we just need to stay focused, play smart, and fight like a team that still has something to prove.

Now, the second hope is snatching a continental spot through the NPFL. But that one? Even trickier. We’re currently five points off the relegation zone and six behind third place—our most realistic Continental target.

Our season has been a topsy-turvy mess. While we’ve “only” lost nine games (all away), we’ve also lost our aura at home. That fear factor we used to enjoy at the Enyimba Stadium? It’s gone. Teams now show up in Aba with their chests out and teasing us – daring us to beat them at our home turf. Guys, even relegation-threatened sides. What a shame.

Honestly, I’m of the opinion that if we truly want to return to the top, next season’s planning should have already started. Maybe Continental football shouldn’t even be our biggest goal—getting our house in order should be. Because after four transfer windows (or 3½, depending on how you count it), our recent signings haven’t been upgrades. Our biggest contributors are still the old guard.

If and thats a big If we somehow land a Continental ticket—great. If or when we do, then we must start planning for it NOW. Not when the draws come out. Not after pre-season. Not mid-season. Now.

Back tomorrow with the Federation Cup preview.
