It’s Palm Sunday!
The last Sunday before Easter, and trust Aba to light up. Happy faces. Sharp clothes. Palms waving. Church aisles transformed into runways. And while the city’s vibes are already on point, a win for our boys in Ijebu-Ode would be the ultimate cherry on top.
Today, we face Sunshine Stars—a team whose name currently feels more ironic than inspiring. Sitting 19th on the log, they’ve been everything but sunshine this season. Their poor run already cost the former management their jobs, and while they’ll be looking to spark a comeback under new leadership, we pray that resurrection doesn’t begin today.
With just six matches left in the season, and a tight table where everyone from 1st to 9th is eyeing a continental spot, it’s do-or-die from here on. Like our mid-season signing Gozie Umeh said—“every match is now a final.” By that count, we’ve got at least 11 finals left to play.
Eguma must find a way to ignite that killer instinct in this team. We need to close out matches, finish chances, and defend with grit. While Ani is back in training after his Derby injury, all signs point to Zalli Abdullahi getting the nod. Maybe Obichere and Obot will man the flanks, while Chikamso and a yet-to-be-decided partner hold things down at the back.
Midfield’s been a mixed bag lately, but we expect to see Atule, Awazie, and Nnaji spearheading the attack. Whoever wears that jersey today must defend the blue badge like their career depends on it—because it just might.
Now, let’s be honest—23 points from 17 matches under Eguma isn’t stellar, especially when Yema had the same haul from just 15 games. But this isn’t the time to compare. It’s the time to unite, push, and finish strong.
So… can we get a triumph on this triumphant entry Sunday? I believe it’s Possible.
Back tomorrow with the full match report.
