Good morning, Elephants!
What’s better than winning? Winning on the road! After what felt like an eternity, we finally bagged a victory—and not just anywhere, but in faraway Bauchi against a struggling Lobi Stars side. If anyone knows what it feels like to be homeless, it’s us. We’ve been through it all—Aba to Umuahia, then Port Harcourt, and finally Calabar—while waiting for our own turf to be fixed. Now, Lobi Stars are walking that same painful road.
With just one domestic win to our name this year and Eguma still familiarizing himself with his squad, everyone knew the stakes. Sitting in 11th place and uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, it was either win or sink deeper. The boys knew it. The gaffer knew it. And they responded like warriors.
Eguma kept faith with Ani Ozoemena in goal—a decision that paid off handsomely, as the shot-stopper pulled off a point-blank save just two minutes before we took the lead. Our new Ghanaian import, was handed his debut in defense alongside Okechukwu Chikamso, while Prince Ikemdinachi and Obichere Wisdom completed the backline. Innocent Gabriel, Fatai Abdullahi, and Chinedu Ufere controlled the midfield, while Ekene Awazie returned to the attack, partnering Joseph Atule and the ever-reliable Ifeanyi Ihemekwele.
The game started with Lobi throwing early punches as expected, but as time ticked on, we settled in and imposed our size. By the half-hour mark, the tide had shifted, and Lobi’s early energy fizzled out. Then, five minutes before the break—BOOM! Chinedu Ufere found Ihemekwele, and the Aba boy slotted home his 7th goal in the league and 10th in all competitions this season. What a campaign he’s having since joining us from Ijebu United!
That lone goal was all we needed. We held firm, secured our first away win of the year, and gave Eguma his maiden road victory as Enyimba’s boss. And as the gaffer himself put it, he’s still settling in, still learning his squad, and the players are still getting used to him. Once that chemistry clicks, who knows what magic could happen?
It was a dream debut for Issah Mohammed, capping it off with a clean sheet. Another new recruit, Michael Nelson, started from the bench. Hopefully, the rest of our new boys will bring the quality boost we need to get Enyimba back where we belong.
Up next? Uyo. Akwa United. Another struggling side. Another chance to build momentum. Let’s keep this train moving!
Back tomorrow.
Enyimba Enyi!
