Enyimba 2-1 Nasarawa United: The Curse is broken

Good morning All,

The Stanley Eguma led revival is notching up a few extra gears.

We followed up Sunday’s 3 points with another 3 points yesterday as Nasarawa United were in town for a rescheduled League fixture. Goals from Joseph Atule and veteran Brown Ideye sealed the fate of the visitors who were probably expecting that our run of draws stretched further.

Eguma had opted for the same lineup that did damage in Uyo against Black Bull but for Ifeanyi Nweke who was in the lineup from the start. It did seem like more of the same with the game having little updates and action worthy of note. Till the added time of the first half. Joseph Atule fresh from his weekend brace caved us the opener.

With 3 goals in 2 appearances including the assist for Ideye’s goal, Atule has now made the emphatic statement about his qualities especially to Coach Yema who apparently wouldn’t give him sufficient playing minutes. I’m pretty sure our former gaffer would have learnt from his decision.

The visitors leveled shortly afterwards and it was the man who has a Premier League hattrick this season already. He who must not be named. I wonder what it would take to get him to Enyimba. Again, Legend has it that even the most prolific strikers struggle to find their form at the revered Aba Grounds.

Determined to exorcise the draw curse that had haunted Enyimba, Coach Eguma made a bold move, calling upon his newest acquisition, the seasoned striker Brown Ideye. The gaffer had said something about upping Ideye’s fitness and that probably explains his cameos from the bench.

Joseph Atule galloped down the near side and pulled the ball back. Our veteranwaited patiently for it and as the ball got to gim, he slid home. 2-1. What a signing. What a turnaround. Besides the goals scoring option he provides, he now seemeed to have breathed life into our attack. Long may it continue.

We make the ascent up the table but with the counciousness that when the chips are down, we have the ability to stay focused on the more important task and not let a setback, set us back. In both games, we saw our initial lead truncated. In boys games, we shook off those set backs and drove the team to victory. That speaks alot about our character as a team.

Perhaps it’s a new dawn. I really hope it is. Back tomorrow with some more juice out of this result
