Good morning All.
This should be quick. I hope! While the season diffuses into the sunset, there are still a lot of conversations to be had, some unpacking to be done and at some point, hopeful look into the future.
As I shared a few days ago, I had recorded an End of Season Review with the Brilliant Tranzeet TV guys. Conversations ranged from analysis of the just concluded season but more importantly, a look into what lies ahead. Not a lenghty one but surely some stuff. You can click on this to watch.
Some players are out of contract – one of which is Brown Ideye who came mid season to come help our attack. Our attack was quite problematic this season. At some point, we had goalshy strikers. Then injuries took their own share of the spoils leaving the respective coaches thinkering, cutting and pasting and trying to find solutions.
Ideye did come in and notably from his first game, helped get the Eguma regime underway. That famous dressing room team talk pumped some adrenaline shot into the team and the result was instant. Someone had the thing on video and it made rounds on social media. Deservedly heralded too.
Then came the injury in Ilorin. Someone said it was just happenstance but maybe im looking at it with Enyimba themed glasses. It did look malicious and it kept him out of the team for a while. Then came the disconnect and that infamous tweet.
I think Ideye ends his Enyimba career on a high even though the club could not land the enviable Continental places or laurels. In terms of the job he came to do, Only the insiders can realistically produce the full assessment as us fans are limited.
Compared to other strikers acquired mid season by Enyimba, I think he was one of the brighter ones. What might he have produced if he played in Coach Yema’s team? We may never know but fair play to him, he found a way to produce something in Stanley Eguma’s setup. Was it always excellent? No. But you cant fault the effort.
What’s ahead for him? Its hard to say especially seeing he is at the September or maybe October of his football career. Lately, he has been sharing advice to young and upcoming footballers. Perhaps he sees a career for himself in football agency and player representation. And while that is a different world by itself, the hope is that he brings his personal experience, and a sound education to help players navigate past the inevitable sharks in the waters.
For us, the more important question however should be whatever happens with our attack? I’m guessing and against hope, hoping that the club’s big wigs are proactively orchestrating a rebuild of massive proportions.
Well, thank you Mr. Ideye for your service. All the best to you on what lies ahead. And for you all, paint a fantastic day.
Back tomorrow
