Good morning!
We’re a few hours from the final stretch of what has been a season-long tug of war with our emotions. Somewhere deep in the hearts of every true Enyimba fan, there’s still a flicker of belief — faint, maybe foolish, but still alive. Could we still sneak into the continent?
Let’s be realistic. Here’s the table:
3rd – Abia Warriors – 56 pts
4th – Ikorodu City – 53 pts
5th – Enyimba – 52 pts
6th – Bendel Insurance – 50 pts
Four teams, one continental ticket. Only third place goes to the promised land.
Abia Warriors are in pole position, but their last three games aren’t a walk in the park:
• Away to Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna
• Home against relegation-threatened El-Kanemi
• Final showdown vs Ikorodu City in Lagos
On paper, they could win all three. But this is the NPFL — nothing is guaranteed.
Ikorodu City might just have the softest route:
• Host Bayelsa United (relatively safe)
• Visit Remo Stars (who have nothing left to play for)
• Wrap up with a potential winner-takes-all vs Abia Warriors
Momentum — and Federation Cup motivation — may tilt things their way.
Bendel Insurance? A bridge too far.
• Home to Akwa United and Heartland (both desperate)
• Away to relegated Lobi Stars
Even if they win all three, they’ll need a miracle elsewhere. Possible? Maybe. Likely? Not quite.
Now, our own story…
• Host Kwara United
• Travel to Gombe to face banished Nasarawa United
• Close the season at home vs Plateau United
On paper, these look like three winnable games. But “on paper” hasn’t always translated to “on the pitch” for us this season. Between unpaid allowances, mid-season drama, and a split personality squad, no one can predict which Enyimba will show up.
We’re close — so close we can almost taste it. But close isn’t good enough unless we want it more than the others and show it where it matters most: on the field. Not forgetting that things will also need to go our way in other centres.
There’s a sliver of hope. But like someone told me yesterday, it’s the hope that kills.
Back tomorrow,
