Good morning Good People,
How are you? I know most people especially some of us in Nigeria have sad lamentations more so with the recent happenings in the country. Sometimes when I get on here to write, it’s hard to ignore the dominant sadness in the country –
But you know football offers us some respite. Some way of escape. Some opportunity to focus our thoughts on something else capable of fueling our joys. And when things don’t work out on the pitch, the sadness piles on the current sadness from our immediate environment.
The world has changed greatly in the recent past. Growing up our parents used to tell us of the Good Old Days. Ironically, some of us can look at our children and give them tales of our own version of Good Old Days. It has really been tough and unless you’re somehow benefiting from the Government, this tough conditions are affecting you one way or the other.
Human greed is a problem. The selfishness and the silly assumption that you will continually weld power and thus can do anything you want. Humans forget too easily. Truth is, power is ephemeral. One day you have it, the other day you don’t. It’s just the way it works.
There was a time when Gen Sani Abacha was the most feared human in the country. Maybe in the Continent. One evening, the 6pm news said he died. He was no longer in that place of power and authority. Just like that. That teaches us – human power is ephemeral.
Reminds me of a scripture – David was lamenting about the wicked. He said – “I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found”.
So It makes it all together funny when humans who can’t even boast of their next breath are threatening others – “Ill deal with you. Ill make life miserable for you”. It’s funny cos while you have those words in your mouth, you might break down the next minute and they’re rushing you to France.
My point is – Be kind. Treat people with dignity and respect. Don’t manifest your wicked tendencies when you’re in a position of power. Life is already hard – so be a good experience for others. Let people think about you and thank God for bringing you their way.
Perhaps this post hasn’t been about Enyimba but I’m hoping there’s a thing or two you got from it. If not, that’s also fine.
Back tomorrow
