Good day!
Our whirlwind tour has finally ended, and it came with goals, resilience, and—most importantly—no defeats. From Aba to Owerri, then a flight to Lagos for a tough battle against Ikorodu City, another flight to Abuja, a trip to Lafia where we made light work of El Shama FC, and then the long journey back home through Abuja and Owerri. If e easy, run am!
Now, our focus shifts to Bayelsa United, but across the footballing landscape, all eyes are on the Super Eagles as they take on Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. It’s a must-win encounter if Nigeria still harbors ambitions of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That said, one question still lingers: How is Kayode Bankole in the squad while Ani Ozoemena isn’t? A debate for another day, perhaps.
Meanwhile, over in the NPFL, another interesting subplot has emerged—Remo Stars have had their fixture this weekend against struggling Lobi Stars postponed. While we may not know the exact reason, the absence of their goalkeepers, Serge Obassa and Kayode Bankole, who are away on national duty may not be far from it. But hold on—don’t they have a third-choice goalkeeper and a feeder team? In other leagues, teams don’t just get a free pass because a few players are unavailable, so what’s really going on here?
This is where the NPFL needs to improve. Decisions like these should come with clear, transparent explanations. Leaving room for speculation and assumptions only fuels unnecessary controversy and dents the league’s credibility. We can and should do better.
But for us, the mission is clear—Bayelsa United awaits. If we can keep our winning mentality, limit avoidable draws and defeats, who says we won’t be knocking on the doors of continental football again?
One step at a time. One game at a time. One win at a time. Let’s cut out the mistakes and drama and focus on reclaiming our rightful place at the top.
