Opinion: The Fall of a Giant: Enyimba’s Disappointing Season

I wish i was writing this on better circumstances but this season has been nothing short of a nightmare for Enyimba fans. It’s like we’re stuck in a never-ending cycle of disappointment. Before each game, it feels like we already know the outcome. Our beloved team has become painfully predictable, and we can’t seem to buy a win, no matter how hard we try.

The old saying “it doesn’t rain, it pours” couldn’t be more fitting. Our 9-time NPFL champion team is struggling, and it’s hard to see a way out. Who’s going to step up and turn things around?

The midweek game against Shooting Stars was a perfect example. We were up against a title-seeking team, and we looked…well, not so title-worthy ourselves. After back-to-back losses, our fans were on edge, hoping for a miracle. But deja vu struck again, and 3SC took the lead courtesy of Sodiq Ibrahim. We breathed a sigh of relief when Sodiq missed his second goal, but it was short-lived.

Ekene Awazie managed to level the score with a beautiful half-volley, but that’s where our luck ended. Despite some changes in the second half, we couldn’t capitalize on our chances, and the game ended in a stalemate.

As a die-hard Enyimba fan, I’m fed up with our team’s lackluster performance. This season has been a disaster, from poor management to inadequate welfare packages for the players and staff. And to rub salt in the wound, the small boys from Umuahia are doing well. A lot better than us!

It’s time for some serious soul-searching and changes within the team. We’ve hit rock bottom, and it’s embarrassing. Every team seems to think they can beat us, and rightly so. It’s a sad state of affairs, and people need to lose their jobs.
