Injuries: How has Enyimba fared on the injury front?

Good morning Guys,

How is the weather where you are? How is your heart? Your health? Your family? Your job? How is your business? How are your loved ones? I know we all assemble here at various times of the day to talk Enyimba affairs. But beside our affinity for Enyimba, I hope the ship of our individual lives are being steered rightly.

This season has rarely been stellar, however one of it’s fundamental features which we haven’t discussed at all is the subject of injuries. Like a curse, this season, we have been badly hit by injuries. Admittedly, injuries are a part of the game. But, we have had some nasty ones this season.

I think the most significant one for us was the one to Eze Pinto. Talk about a midfielder on song at the earlier part of the season. Probably my favorite midfield player in the team. And then he gets knackered and subsequently he has been almost impossible to replace.

Then came Clinton’s. Clinton Jephtha like Pinto was also one of the standout performers at the start of the season. Calls to the National Team was frequent as were his significant contribution to both teams – Enyimba and the CHAN Eagles. He got some vital goals too. Until his progress was blighted by injuries. Thankfully he is back in the squad.

Then came Brown Ideye’s. Away at Illorin and some knucklehead decided he should be taken out of the game. A nasty stubbed toe was the result and his initial spark with us following his signing by Coach Yema was halted. Again, like Clinton, he is back on the team.

Imoh Obot, Uwana Asuquo, Kalu Nweke and Nathaniel Asibe (Remember him, our goalie at the start of the season) have also gotten their quota of time away on the sidelines. However the latest in that lineup of injuries is the nasty gash Ifeanyi Ihemekwele got last Sunday. So bad was it that the players allegedly nearly walked off in protest.

The player in question got sent off but not without really hurting one of our best players this term. There is a part of injuries which the fans can barely relate with. Injuries come with pain, severe pains – through the incident, healing and rehabilitation. This part isn’t seen by fans but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

No doubt, injuries are a part of Professional Sports but we cannot but empathize with our players who have been at the receiving end of some and pray them quick recovery.

The rest of the season starts here. Hopefully we can navigate it without any more major injury incidents. Amen.

Back tomorrow
