Not sure how it works for others but my dominant mood at a given time affects the tone and personality of my blog posts. When I am upset about the day I had or perhaps off of the back of a sad incident, it gets revealed in the spirit of my blog. Not like I’ll be hurling insults and all but I “let it all out” regardless of whose ox is gored.
Well, as it pen this, Tuesday night. We have some kind of family emergency. So I sit by a bedside, overlooking this family member, I’m testing myself to see what comes out of me as I try to get the word count for today’s post. Meanwhile there’s a new edition of the Elephant Podcast. You can find it here.
We face Bendel Insurance this evening in Benin as we look to salvage what is left of this season. Much has been said and expressed regarding Sunday’s disappointing defeat in Uyo. Back to back away games before we face Rivers United this weekend – our position on the table means we need some result this evening.
How that would happen remains to be seen. Our legendary coach is part of the bunch that has overseen decades of home wins and away defeats. We need 2 away wins and a flawless home record to land in the enviable positions. Can you imagine us finishing in the top positions despite all we faced. That would be something.
Striker Brown Ideye got injured when we played Kwara United in Illorin. Although the nasty injury does look malicious – a stubbed toe, we hope he ascends above it. We do have some alternative firepower including ifeanyi Ihemekwele who has deputized satisfactorily in my view. Clinton is back as well and Junior Lokosa is an option too. As are others.
The task is simple – we have a season to save and it has to be a collective responsibility. Our defence now is a stark contrast to what it was like during Coach Yema’s time. I miss him. What a difference he made. I dare say it – there has been nothing special Eguma has brought to the table. And firing him was a colossal mistake.
Well,.Yema is not here today and we can only hope that Stanley Eguma brings along his victory wand. Bendel Insurance is one of the teams that took a point off us in Aba. We do have some kind of score to settle. Let’s hope the referees don’t have their own mission to accomplish.
Hopefully the boys are up for it.
Back tomorrow.
