When did Enyimba become this unrecognizable?

I didn’t want to write today. Honestly, I didn’t. Yesterday’s defeat still burns, and the banter I’ve endured for supporting this club only added salt to the wound. But then, I saw a video on TikTok—a reminder of how unrecognizable Enyimba has become—and it was like the scab was ripped right off.

Defeat is bitter, but you see what’s worse? Watching your team stumble around the pitch like strangers to the badge they wear. That second goal we conceded against Kwara United? A comedy of errors so painful it could make you question your entire weekend. Tiredness, at the 38th minute? What’s next? Sending a “Do Not Disturb” sign to the opposing strikers?

This blog has screamed for months about the lack of quality and heart in this squad. And before you roll your eyes, take a hard look at what we fielded yesterday. Yes, the squad is mostly new, and yes, chemistry takes time, but when a player isn’t good enough, no amount of time or motivational speeches will fix that. Let’s be real.

The fullbacks? Flat. Predictable. Disastrous. That right-back? Even the guy selling suya in the stands knows he’s a weak link. And the backup-to-the-backup left-back? A signing so questionable it makes you wonder if we’re recruiting players based on vibes and connections instead of actual skill.

I pity Stanley Eguma. I’m not his biggest fan, but what is he supposed to do with this squad? It would take divine intervention to get this team functioning. The transfer window is shutting soon, and as always, we’ll probably see a flurry of new arrivals. But please, can we avoid the tired legs and the clueless trialists this time? Wearing the Enyimba badge demands excellence, not mediocrity. We’re not some mid-table club—this is Enyimba!

We have the resources. The government claims they’re backing us. Abia Warriors even praised the state for its support recently, and if I didn’t know better, I’d say it’s beginning to look like a case of “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” Are we not the pride of Abia? The club with national and continental prestige? Where is the ambition?

And then there’s Brown Ideye. I watched his video, and the frustration was palpable. He’s been here for what—barely a month? And he’s already lamenting player welfare. If that doesn’t scream systemic failure, I don’t know what does. This isn’t some random journeyman. This is Brown freaking Ideye—a player who has seen it all. If his alarm bells aren’t enough, then we’re probably beyond saving. I won’t be shocked if someone said he’s talking about the league but where else has he been to see all he’s talking about? Yes! Only at Enyimba.

Heartland is next on Thursday in Aba, and under normal circumstances, I’d be gearing up for a comfortable win. But with the way things stand, the only thing guaranteed is uncertainty. We’ve become as unpredictable as Manchester United on a bad day. God abeg.

Enyimba Enyi!
