Hello Al Masry, it’s You Again

Good morning All,

It’s crunch time. Our Eguma led revival faces It’s toughest task yet. Egyptian Giants Al Masry are in town today. In Uyo that is, as we look to wriggle ourselves out of a Group where we have little room for any errors.

Our CAF Campaign (not just Enyimba’s but for Nigeria’s foremost quartet) has been a familiar reflection of what it’s always been over the years- poor. The likes of Remo and Rangers and El-Kanemi barely sniffed and despite the reputation some of those teams commanded, they fell off before the Competition even got started.

Somehow we are still here and despite our poor start to the season, we still have a slim chance to make it out of the Group.  We are third on the log albeit with same points with Black Bull in 4th. That slim chance will involve getting all three points today. Bag the maximum points and we can head to Egypt to battle the final spot. This is a classic case of our destiny being firmly in our hands.

Like us, Al Masry has just one win in the Competition. I did think they would follow up their 2-0 conquest of us back then with a good run. But they haven’t and that raises the stakes for today’s game. A win for us should get us to 2nd. Zamalek play Black Bull and that result will shape the final match day.

Eguma’s attack is back on song with Brown Ideye, Ihemekwele and Atule leading the charge. Today they will need to continue their dance. The Egyptians may not give us alot of room in attack but at the back, we must tighten things. A clean sheet will be an excellent backdrop for the result we need today.

And even if we don’t get that, we just need to get the 3 points. Making it to the Quarter finals will be extraordinary. But it will all begin with 3 points today.

Let’s hope the boys deliver.

Back tomorrow.
