Happy Sunday, Enyimba faithful!

It’s the first Sunday of the year, and what better way to kick off 2025 than with our first match of the year? While most NPFL teams are still nursing New Year hangovers or gearing up for the second half of the season, here we are, diving straight into the action.

Today, the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo becomes our battlefield once more. It’s our makeshift home for Continental football—just like every other NPFL side fortunate enough to make it this far. Yes, we miss the raucous Aba atmosphere and the comfort of actual home advantage, but until that promised world-class stadium becomes reality, here we are.

Our opponents? Black Bulls of Maputo. The stakes? Enormous. This is the first of three do-or-die clashes in our CAF Confederation Cup group. A win today keeps us alive in the competition; anything less, and we’re one step closer to booking an early flight out of Africa. After this, we face Zamalek in Egypt (gulp) and Al Masry in Uyo, but let’s take it one step at a time.

Stanley Eguma, our new gaffer, knows what’s at stake. In just seven days on the job, he’s already lamenting our injury woes while emphasizing the importance of this match. To be fair, he knew the size of the challenge when he signed up. The boys in camp are reportedly in high spirits, and we’re counting on that energy to translate into a much-needed victory.

Good news? Ani Ozoemena and Imo Obot are available before they jet off to CHAN Eagles camp tomorrow. Here’s hoping they make their mark and remind us why they earned those call-ups.

While Black Bulls might not seem as daunting as Zamalek or Al Masry, we learned the hard way in Maputo that there are no easy games. That trip was a logistical nightmare that practically handed the match to the hosts. No excuses today. We’re in Uyo, on Nigerian soil, and there’s only one acceptable outcome: three points.

A win today could spark belief, ignite confidence, and set us up for a thrilling comeback in this group. The boys have it in them—we know it, they know it. I am conveninetly not going to talk about our goalscoring troubles this season. The least said, the better.

Let’s make 2025 the year we trample on back to victory, starting with this game this evening.

Come on, Enyimba! We can do this.

EnyimbaEnyi!
