My People. How una dey?

It’s the last day of 2024, and what a year this has been. The temptation was to do a compilation of this year from an Enyimba perspective, but who honestly would be interested in something like that? I don’t think it is necessary. So let’s talk about the present and not the past.

Striker Brown Ideye was unveiled yesterday. A very necessary acquisition for a club that seemed to have forgotten how to score goals. Aside from the 2 goals we scored against Zamalek in Uyo, there have hardly been any notable goals to remind us of. Oh well, there was the Ikorodu injury-time strike.

Ideye’s signing is one last gift Coach Yema handed the team. I mean, he had courted him, made the calls, agreed on the terms, but the deal was nearly derailed as our Oga Sporting Director delayed again and again. Eventually, they got the deal over the line, and we have our man. Thankfully.

We must highlight, though, that Ideye is holding out for a deal from abroad. In which case, if any comes, we’ll let him leave. It’s a similar deal to what Ahmed Musa has with Kano Pillars. So is the right thing here to wish the player all the best or wish the club that their man stays at least till the end of the season? I don’t know.

Well, our collective prayer is that Ideye hits the ground running. We need goals and a couple of 3-point wins to help our ascent up the table. We also have some Continental hurdles ahead of us. So the earlier he gets into rhythm with the rest of the team, the better for us. Rhythm, as in hitting the back of the net.

With Brown Ideye in, we cannot rest on our laurels. We do need another striker. The question is, does Oga Sporting have someone in the works? Or maybe Wenger does? I mean, his experience in the League should help him swing a player or two. I would most certainly hope.

By the way, is it OK to keep calling him Wenger here on the blog? Let’s get another striker in. Someone who knows his stuff. Junior Lokosa, maybe? Is he still in the country? The question may be about his current match fitness, but if he is available, then why not?

Clearly, we are big on numbers but very low in quality. Priority should be made of the striking department. Then we have Daniel Daga, who should be leaving very soon. Clearly, he is one of our best players. I hope there is a sufficient replacement for him.

These are the changes that will stop the rot and help Wenger begin winning football matches again. This has been a tough year for a lot of people and for Enyimba. May the new year be less stressful yet more fruitful. Amen.

Have a great crossover (you should come to my church – Christ Embassy) and see you in the new year.
