Good morning Everyone and Merry Christmas Eve to you and yours.
Its a strange year this and many people have their Christmas hopes very well deflated,.no thanks to the situation of the Nigerian Economy. It’s been a very tough year and while many have regrets, the singular fact that we soldiered up to this point is in itself laudable.
Similarly with our beloved club. It has been a strange year (or two). The events around the club, results off and on the pitch, fines and punishments by the League Compliance Prefects. It’s been one tough year. One would even add- the rebirth of ThatEnyimbaFan as one more storm rallied against the club.
That brings me to the main point today. “Why are you doing this?”, as someone very recently asked me. In fact, One person on Facebook said I was a stooge from the previous administration to amplify the failings of the team and thus shame the current club management. That was as hilarious and comical as it gets. They couldn’t be further away from the truth. Ill explain.
For starts, I have not been in touch with anyone in the previous administration. Whether directly or indirectly. I respect them for what they did during their tenure but we did clash time and time again. If you were an old disciple of the blog, or if you are able to skim through www.thatenyimbafan.wordpress.com, you will see post after post of my stinging criticism of them.
For those who didn’t know this, I once served as the Club’s Media officer. But it was a very short stint. I literally could not stomach the goings on at the club and I had to quit. Perhaps, mine was the shortest tenure for a media officer in the history of the club. Not sure that’s a badge I’m glad to wear but it still doesn’t erase that little piece of history.
My drive is the fact that I was born and raised on the streets of Aba. Long before the intervention of Orji Uzor Kalu – back then when stadium was just a glorified Secondary School Pitch – I was already a fan. My Dad’s church was literally next door and on Sundays, you’ll hear the audios of the “Goals” and “Misses”. I was a fan long before I could even watch the team play live. My dad wasn’t going to allow pre-teenage me get into the stadium.
So maybe loving this club was part of my destiny. I have come to embrace and accept this fact and loving it with all diligence and faith, is all I have done. From the moment when I was able to interact and know the players at a closer level, the likes of Chinedu Udoji and Sikiru Kamal and Nzube Anaezemba and Daniel Etor. Mfon Udoh too. I was quite on friendly terms with alot of them.
Running this blog is borne out of passion and love for this club. Setting this thing up, whether paying for the internet costs or the giveaways we do -(we had a big one yesterday btw) i am more inclined to give than to ask for anything in return. That is why bribing isn’t something that would work. I cannot sell my soul and love for this club for Thirty Pieces of Silver.
I just want this club to work. My commitment to Enyimba is unwavering. I crave a revival that restores pride in the badge and propels the team to Continental greatness again. But first, the current leadership must wake up from their slumber and take a serious stance. This is the theme going forward until we see the right changes.
Back tomorrow
