Good morning Everyone,
The first batch of the Maputo Contingent arrived the country on Thursday. The second batch of 8 players and coaches slept over in Addis Ababa last night and a few hours ago, they got on the way en route to Lagos via Lome. What an ordeal and honestly, the least said about it, the best.
What that means is that Sunday’s fixture against Plateau United has been postponed. We have, with our ineptitude created problems for not just ourselves, but for a couple of other teams. This week, we could have knocked off two fixtures off our schedule, but we did not. Instead we add a trip to Jos at the expense of Christmas. Thursday, according to my sources.
Rookie mistakes are not a surprise when you are on a new terrain but what is, is tearing down a structure because of a lack of trust and installing your band of fellow rookies. Kanu would have remained the “Good will” appointment that he was supposed to be and used the already grown structure to keep things running. But he didn’t. And here we are.
Learning from past mistakes is crucial, because a failure to may have dire consequences. No matter how big or famous a club is, the twin vice of mismanagement and lack of vision, will ultimately cause dearth. A prime example is Iwuanyanwu National (Heartland), which once consistently competed on the Continental stage. Nowadays surviving each League season is the goal.
This is why stakeholders at every level – whether you’re an outsider looking in, or an insider, must insist that the wellbeing of the club is of uttermost importance. We cannot turn a blind eye when negligence is exalted and decisions are made outside of the club’s best interest. If your primary drive is money, know this.- a well run club can generate alot more revenue, benefiting all stakeholders.
Recently, some individuals labeled us as spreaders of misinformation. Ironically, these same people were aware of Enyimba’s string of poor decisions. Yet, they chose to defend the club and attack our credibility for crumbs. A valuable lesson: when you distort reality, even those you defend will ultimately lose respect for you.
The future of this football club lies in our collective hands and anyone placing their interests above that of the club must be seen for what he is – an enemy and they must be treated such.
Back tomorrow.
