November is here!

It’s the penultimate month of the year and it is always akin to losing the vibe and energy we’ve had for most of the year. Sometimes, we just need a little extra to keep on till the year runs out.

I am no prophet, I don’t even need to be, but I am sure one will definitely, at some point, experience days when one’s muse is at its lowest ebb. Such days you find it difficult to pen words together to make sense. I remember my days as a newspaper man when computers were not in vogue, I’d write on paper and then tear it off when I don’t deem the report good enough. I also remember an old colleague would also say ‘the vicissitude of life plays a role in finding or losing one’s muse as a writer.’

Talking about finding one’s muse this is a good time for Enyimba to get their machines well-oiled and ready for the coming days, barring any withdrawals of the licences of new signings owing to the club’s indebtedness to maybe one or both of former players, Stephen Chukwude and Chijioke Akuneto. The People’s Elephant really need to find their ‘muse’ on the pitch and sew up a string of impressive results if they must stay within the challenge for titles this season. November is going to be a very busy month with big fixtures for the People’s Elephant in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and in the CAF Confederation Cup.

‘Yema’ Olanrewaju and his men will play Bayelsa United (away), Remo Stars (home), Abia Warriors (away) and Sunshine Stars (home) while the match at Kano Pillars is certainly going to be rescheduled for another date, and getting into that winning groove especially after current leaders, Rivers United and Remo Stars, dropped points in the last matchweek.

Away from the NPFL, there is also the trip to the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria to face Al Masry in their opening Confederation Cup group stage on November 28. A very tricky tie. They’re neither Zamalek nor Al Ahly but they deserve the utmost preparation.

Well I must say the good thing about the timing of this game is that our whizkid, Clinton Jephtha, will be back within the fold after helping Nigeria’s win the WAFU Under-20 tournament and qualifying for the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). I am sure Yema will be happy to have the forward back for such an important month, and I expect Clinton to have a telling effect in the coming matches like he’s done in previous ones.

Certainly, it is very much in order to say congratulations to the lad for winning the WAFU B Under-20 tournament and qualifying for the AFCON with his international teammates. I hope his return will bring a good run to the People’s Elephant and make it a November to remember.

Back tomorrow for some more!

Enyimba Enyi!
