Aiteo Cup heartbreak: Now what’s next

Good morning Guys.

First and foremost, thank you for yesterday. For your kind and warm wishes, for prayers and gifts. I was super loaded with so much and for these, I am very grateful. My friends came over for dinner and they had a lot of gracious words to share.

Onto Enyimba now. Well, we have our season hanging by the thread and there are serious concerns that this is the end of it. Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Kano Pillars in the Aiteo Cup ended our realistic chance of a domestic trophy. Did we bite more than we could chew?

What’s left in the bag is a near impossible trip to Morocco. We had lost in Aba six days ago. Getting any kind of result in Casablanca would be quite an uphill task. Maybe having played more games than most people especially in a short time had ruined us.

Forgive my pessimism but there’s realistically nothing left for us this season. And mind you I’ll be glad to eat my humble pie if the team turns the CAF Confederation Cup result around on its head in Morocco. These barrage of fixtures and road trips haven’t helped anyone at all.

But we can’t afford to ignore the successes made this season. Starting from our pitch which is now yet again a footballers Dream. A decent squad with a pretty good manager. Although we would look back and painfully realize that we won’t be playing in the Continent next season.

The irony however would be for the representatives next season to fail to get beyond the Preliminary stages. Lobi Stars for one, can they? It’s difficult to tell because they’re hardly a side you’ll call a powerhouse. I mean they got ousted in the Aiteo Cup long before the anyone knew what the Aiteo Cup was all about this season.

The club must smartly sort out the issues within the team right now. Mfon Udoh is one of such situations. There’s also rumors concerning left back Ikouwem. There are whispers that he won’t be in the League next season. I’ll never claim I’m in the know about these things, so don’t be surprised if he’s at the club next season.

We lick our wounds and make a pledge to do better.

That’s all I can do today. I’ll be back tomorrow with Something exciting I think.
