Good morning Guys.
We are in the last 16 of the Aiteo Cup after we put a resilient Dynamite Force FC side to the sword in Nnewi. Goals by Chinedu Udeagha and Stephen Chukwude handed us the victory as we marched into the next round.
First of all, i would like to say to make a correction from yesterday’s blog. We claimed no NPFL team fell to a lower division side in this round. That was false and untrue. Go Round FC, FC Ifeanyiubah and Niger Tornadoes all had their hopes of another fixture this season cut short by a lower level opposition. The possibility of this added the extra pressure on this fixture.
But after a barrage of chances from both teams, Udeagha finally get us an opener. It does remind me of our first goal of the season. Alalade did all the work on the flank before squaring to him for a cool finish. That obviously was in Makurdi. Now he simply pulled it out of his hat and put us ahead.
The rest of the half and most of the second period was uncomfortable for us. We had to withstand an onslaught from Dynamite Force and although they came close to scoring, they couldn’t find a way back in the game. Stephen Chukwude would have the last say. Back in his very familiar stomping ground he would wait to the last minute to get our second.
Interesting choices by the gaffer by way of team selection. With a long trip behind us and a potential game of the season yet, there had to be some balance. The need to keep the players fresh for Sunday. Hopefully he has a good pool of talent to choose from from. In the end, our report card shows back to back draws and a potential win for Sunday.
The game itself wasn’t flawless. There were a few irregularities with the offside calls. But in the end, we do just did enough to move into the next round.
Finally for today, I saw in a post that the Enyimba stadium is currently being touted as a home for a Super Eagles’ game. It better be a joke! Don’t toy with our emotions. Meanwhile we have our ears and eyes open to see how that opens us.
