The journey begins today. Our journey to reclaim our Federations Cup gets started this evening in Benin as we clash with Wasiu Alalade’s cousins from Osun State. It’s only the FA Cup but it does feel good writing something similar to a Sunday evening league match preview.
With the League now handed to Lobi Stars, this presents another valid route to a silverware and in this round, we are up against an opponent of what could be referred to as inferior quality. I mean who has even heard of this team before? There certainly won’t be many. Just like the Abia State based Ngwa United which won the FA Cup in Solacy’s Ebonyi State.
But then again, this is football. A well pumped up team of eleven players could look to get the tag of giant killers – it doesn’t get any bigger than Enyimba, does it? And you’d like to think that among the fixtures all across the other centers taking place this evening, there’s bound to be some giant killing.
It’s a fixture coming at a very crucial time for us and it would be interesting to see what Coach Abdallah does today by way of selection with the Rayon Sport game right on the horizon. You’d think there would be a number of faces from the fringes. How terrible would it be if we lost some of our better legs before such crucial Continental clash?
Match readiness thus comes into question. We do have a large turnover of players and you’d wonder how some someone who calls himself a professional player doesn’t get as much as five games at a club all season. Must be discouraging but you want such players to show some fight. And such opportunities as tonight is a good chance to burden your head coach with some selection dilemma.
So we’d wait, and see what eventually happens.
We are working on getting live updates for the game. We are knocking some doors and hopefully we will get some breakthrough. The updates if we get through, would be shared via Twitter. Fingers crossed.
All the best to the lads,
