Good morning Guys,
So the Aiteo Cup draws have been made and we are pitted against Wasiu
Alalade Alabelewe of Osun State. The fixture itself holds this Sunday at a venue the NFF “will” announce before Thursday ends. That information eventually got released and our clash with Wasiu Alabelewe will hold in Benin.
There’s not much to talk about our readiness with regards to that game except that it’s a potential banana skin. You’d think some of the guys who have been on the fringes of our team will get an opportunity to show that they are deserving of a crack at the first team. Caution though; that mental combat could make it easy for a motivated underdog to kill a Goliath.
To be honest, I think based on our pedigree, we should be very focused on the targets in front of us – the Fed Cup and the CAF Confederations Cup. That of course should mean that we are very well conscious that no football game is a stroll in the Park, even if you are Nigeria’s most successful club. That said, we’d see if we can work on a live update for the game.
Now onto the NFF. I’ll like to start by saying that the Amaju Pinnick led NFF will be viewed as nothing but a colossal failure. We can blame Giwa and Solomon Dalung who for themselves are not excusable but if Pinnick exempts himself from the mess our football turned out to be this season then he is not the leader we thought he should be.
Most annoying is the Aiteo draws. Who saw the Aiteo draws on TV? Nobody. Because it wasn’t on TV. Last year’s was live on TV, this year’s was in … call it whatever you’re comfortable with.
Not sure how to interpret what the above image looks like but this is anything but professional. But then again, you wanna ask, what is the set standard? What is the acceptable standard?
Our positions of service within our football fraternity and in the country as a whole must be about raising the dyke, making significant landmarks and historic feats which come close to what is obtainable beyond the shores of Nigeria. And for Goodness’s sake, we cannot keep having FA Chairmen and Secretaries who only see the position as their retirement package.
How has the football in your State become better? Or does everyone now know you as that FA Secretary who will swing match results to ensure a team gets promoted at the expense of the one deserving of it?
Football and indeed most sports are on a different level globally nowadays. Why can’t we step up our game? Oh I know the answer, visionless leadership. We wail about this at the club level. Being a club chairman is supposed to be more than just a title. Ask yourself, what good have I done to our game. How will I be remembered? What is my legacy? Because guess what? you won’t be there forever.
That’s all I have today and if you didn’t get a chance to read our corner-kick yesterday, it’s right here. And as for Wasiu Alalade’s cousins, we’d see you in Benin on Sunday.
