Good morning Fellas,
It’s Friday but we are yet to recover from Wednesday’s memorable scintillating last minute victory over Cara! We’ve rolled out two posts in a bid to do justice to the win and while you can find those here and here, there could be more, if needs be. In fact, I think there will be more, check the blog tomorrow.
Usually on this blog, we focus more on the players and coaches but I do think some people beyond just the players deserve some accolades. First of all, the State Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has finally seen the completion of and return to our Stadium. It might have taken three years but it was done rightly. Just looking at the events of Wednesday, tells you just how much this means to the Aba faithful.
Then again, we must hail the club chairman Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu. We have in the past criticized the way things are run at the club and the lack of a proper branding for the club. But in all honesty, he has kept this side competitive and has always sought out ways to raise the stock of the club.
We do sign a whole lot of players (thanks Mr Jude Anyadufu) and while that sometimes prove wasteful, you can count on his genuine efforts in bringing in anyone who will make this team better. I do remember how we signed Christian Obiozor off the nose of Kano Pillars and how we signed Mfon Udoh after a stormer season at Akwa United.
On a larger scale, Enyimba’s success in the Continent are to a large extent resultant of his invaluable contribution. When was the last time a Nigerian club made it to the Group stages of a CAF competition? Me neither, I can’t remember. Recent League Champions, Rangers and Plateau United and the rest of the noisemakers all failed to go past the preliminary stages.
The failures of other Nigerian clubs saw CAF reduce our quota from two spots in both competitions to just one. And going by our success so far this season, we are about to have those two spots in each of those competitions restored to two a piece. Isn’t it befitting to say that Nigeria League football community does owe us some respect? They owe us some drink every year!!!
Beyond a shadow of doubt, we are Nigeria’s most successful and most prestigious club side and that has happened under Chief Anyansi’s watch. And while we stay expectant for more, it would be unfair not to acknowledge the dyke raised in such a way that Enyimba produces success habitually. Thank you Enyimba management.
I’ll be back tomorrow; meanwhile they’ve handed Lobi Stars the League. What a sad development.
